Basic Personality:

Geist is usually the sort of wolf that's overlooked within the pack when it comes to personality simply because he doesn't stand out, nor does he try to. He's the sort to keep his head down, do as he's told, and never question authority. He's inherently shy and self-conscious because of how he looks ("demon" eyes and "ghost" face and all that), which makes him appear antisocial and even more of a wallflower. When someone does take notice of him, Geist tends to be uncomfortable and stutter or make sudden awkward subject changes. He doesn't much like to talk about himself, his past, or his family. Mostly because the subjects are too painful, but also because he feels such things are too personal. Submissive to a fault when it comes to pack heirarchy and leadership, he has a tendency to surprise those who get to know him by being oddly outspoken and opinionated. However, this side is something he rarely shows to those he does not fully trust. And those he trusts are very few. Beyond those he trusts, Geist tends to keep his thoughts to himself and is generally very polite and soft-spoken. He's a bit of an idealist and a dreamer who falsely believes he can right all the wrongs in the world, like some sort of superhero. He's constantly being reminded by Ave that he is merely mortal and cannot play God. This doesn't stop him from having a powerful sense of right and wrong, of justice and retribution that borders on fanatical. However, because of his natural meekness, he never feels as though he has the ability to do much of anything to right the wrongs he sees in the world or to protect anyone else as he barely has the capability to fend off his own dangers and demons. Geist tends to appear cheerful and sweet, if not naive and ridiculously innocent, but has a darker side than he lets on at first and isn't as clueless as he might seem. He's simply selective about how much information he chooses to acknowledge, process, or reveal at any given time. There are certain areas, however, especially when it comes to social contact and relationships, where his intelligence falls short and he's left in a hopelessly awkward situation. He and his half-sister Ave have the ability to communicate telepathically with one another. Though this talent seems limited to just the pair of them, it is highly possible because of their parents' similar gifts, that Ave and Geist may each be able to share a similar intimate, telepathic bond with another wolf - potentially a mate or romantic partner. Geist is fairly good at picking up subtle nuances in others' voices; since he cannot always see the expressions of those he's holding conversations with, being able to discern intent and honesty from a speaker's tone and diction is a great asset to him. In the past, he was often invited to sit in during important meetings just to listen to what was said and report on his impressions or conclusions. He took great pride in this former role as it was one of the only times when he felt as though he was useful to someone. Deep down, that's all Geist really wants: to be loved for who he is and fill that void his parents' deaths left behind, and to be useful and necessary and wanted by someone, regardless of what the reasoning is.

Basic Lifeline:

The only pup out of his litter to live more than a few weeks, Geist was beloved by his parents as their little miracle. Growing up, Geist never felt as though his parents were overprotective, though he understood that they were afraid of something - or someone - that they dared not name. It wasn't until they were both brutally murdered that Geist understood that not everyone in the world was good. His concept of good and evil was solidified in that day, as was his realization that nothing would be the same without his parents. Geist managed to escape from the assassins who had slaughtered his parents and from that day forward stuck to hiding in the shadows, only coming out at night when his vision was clearer and his presence less likely to be noticed. He earned himself a reputation as a "ghost" because of his tendency to - when spotted on those rare occasions - disappear within a blink of an eye, leaving nothing but the memory of a ghastly white shape with blood red eyes to suggest he had even been there. The connotation stuck with him for the rest of his young life. When the news reached his extended family about the deaths of his parents, his Aunt was quick to come to his rescue and take the orphaned Geist in. His mateless aunt was, at the time, raising her own son - Geist's cousin - along with Geist's half-sister Ave, whom he had never met. Though Ave and her cousin were almost as close as siblings due to the fact that they were raised together since birth, Geist bonded fairly quickly with his older sister. He never really did form a deep relationship with his cousin; their mutual love for Ave was the only reason they managed to tolerate one another. Ave felt very protective of Geist because of his visual impairments and the fact that his looks often earned him jeers and criticism. She became his eyes, leading him around during the day in as subtle a manner as she could manage, and becoming Geist's inspiration and strength to learn to stand on his own. Their cousin was jealous of the amount of attention Ave lavished on Geist, but knew enough to hold his tongue. However, when the time came for them to strike out on their own, Ave and Geist's cousin was rather vocal about the fact that Geist would only slow down Ave's progression towards a new life on her own. Infuriated with the wolf she had come to know as cousin-sibling-friend-and-soulmate, Ave purposefully left with Geist for a region that not even their brash cousin would enter. It was a long and dangerous trek through wilderness dotted with humans, bears, and other dangers, but with Ave at his side, Geist was never afraid. He took comfort in her solid, silent strength. He taught himself to become as self-sufficient as he could, knowing in the back of his mind that what their cousin said was true: Ave would not be able to protect Geist from everything forever. At some point, something was bound to break...
